Yesterday, I had some sad news. The pet guinea pig that I shared ownership with my brother has died. :crying: It was technically his pet but I came over to feed and care for it while he was away at college.

The weirdest thing is that all the time we had her (since April of last year) we thought she was a he. We only realized we had a Miss Piggy the day before she died. We never bothered to check before because she was pretty skittish for the longest time. She had a pretty traumatic life before. There were pencils and things in her cage the first time I cleaned it out, I'm guessing to poke her with.

I feel as though we did everything we could do to keep her alive, but she was weak from not eating or drinking though we tried to make her at least drink. We will miss our sweet Miss Piggy.

I never had a guinea pig in the house, just hamsters (the little escape artists). No matter what kind of pet you love, you do love it, and it hurts when you lose it. I'm sorry you lost your little pal.

This is the second guinea pig we have had as a pet. (Other pets we've had include rabbits, hamsters, cats and dogs)
I currently have 2 dogs also.
My husband is particularly sad about the guinea pig because he has spent several hours with her during the last couple days trying to help her. You don't even want to know what all we did to keep her alive. Trust me on that.

My heart goes out to you and your family. I had to put my Guinea Pig Rue to sleep a few months ago. She was just shy of being 8 years old. I miss her very much too. Guinea Pigs are wonderful animals and I wish that I would have gotten them for my children when they were young. We used to always get hamsters or gerbils and though cute, were not cuddly and sweet like a Guinea Pig. She used to play with my cats...they never tried to hurt her. My husband keeps asking me if I want another one (I inherited Rue when my youngest daughter went off to college) and sometimes I think about telling him yes...but then I don't know if I could ever replace her.
Just know that you did everything you could for her and that she felt your love. I cried so much when I lost Rue and I just knew some people thought I was being foolish and would think "Oh, it was only some rodent". Those people just don't have a clue about a special bond between a pet and its owner. Hugs to you all.

So sorry to hear your bad news, ILBT. I had a couple of guinea pigs when I was younger and I loved them to pieces. The loss of any beloved pet is hard and you have the extra "stake" from all of your efforts to help her. That makes it worse. :hug2:

I know it is hard to lose a pet...I've lost a few too. It is always hard...so I'm sorry for your loss. Lots of hugs to you and your brother too.

I had to take my cat to the vet today. He really scared me. He fell off of a bench that he sits on in front of the window. Then he couldn't seem to stand up...he was stumbling as if there was something wrong with his legs. So I called the vet and took there as quick as I could...it really scared me. And the vet did some tests..Titan didn't even flinch when he took his temp. Everything was normal except his heart rate...which could've just been from being at the vet. Although..even though you could tell he didn't feel well he still loved on the vet...my Titan is just so sweet. The vet gave him a shot...the cat version of tylenol...and said to watch him and call if he does it again. And that it could be the beginnings of epilepsy....which really scared me!! Titan has been a little restless and cried a bit since we got home..but seems to have finally calmed down. I really hope he is okay...I would just be lost without my baby. I can't even imagine being without him...isn't funny how our pets become like our kids.

Watcher, how old is Titan? This heat is hard on the animals too. My 3 cats are just sprawled out all over the place and not really eating or playing. Hope everything is fine with him. Keep us posted.

SW, I hope your Titan will be OK.My pal Simon had a few spells and we rushed him to the vet. He'd be walking along, and suddenly he'd fall over....then look confused like he thought somebody pushed him. It turned out to be an ear problem.

Our Mamacat had a couple of episodes that scared us to death. She was sitting on the hassock washing her face, and suddenly froze with her foot up in the air, and her head at an odd angle. We just talked to her and patted her till it passed. An hour or so later she had another spell. The next day we took her in, and the vet wasn't sure, but thought she had a little stroke or seizure. I've never seen her have another, but I worry about her because she's outside in daylight hours, unless it's storming.

Titan is about 6yrs old...not exactly sure...we got him from the SPCA. And he is completely indoors...so it shouldn't be the heat....I keep it cool in here I can't stand the heat myself. I hope it all works out and nothing else happens...it will worry me though for awhile.

I, too, am sorry about your loss. Our pets do become like our children when it comes to loving them. We just had our beagle spayed and everything seemed to be going fine, then on the eighth night after her operation she tried to jump on my bed in the middle of the night (she's been sleeping with my daughter because there is more room on her bed). Well she didn't jump high enough and tumbled down and yelped but went on back to my daughter's bed. She seemed fine but later that night we noticed some little blood spots and called the vet the next morning and I took her in. He thought she might've pulled an inside stitch out but that it must've already began healing because there would've been more blood.

Needless to say the night before I took her in I was pretty scared they'd have to reopen her and everything and it wasn't a nice thought.

He did give us another 7 days of amoxicillen (sp?) to give her just to make sure nothing got infected during that additional healing time.

Well, she is just raring to go walking with us now. We will get her stitches out tomorrow and she will be so glad to go walking again instead of being left at home. She would go to her leash and then look at us with those big puppy dog eyes. It was very heart breaking. Another thing she does when she is feeling real good is to chase her tail and run around the yard. She is doing that again. She loves to have you chase her and then she runs even more. So, I am relieved that everything is finally okay with our beagle.

Awww Mouse, so glad she is chasing her tail again. I was afraid when reading this post that it did not have a happy ending and I'm so glad she is doing ok and getting her stitches out tomorrow, goodluck.
