I did a crazy thing. All week I have been pestering my husband because he was over 2 weeks late paying his car tag.
Well, I realized today that my brother's sticker was a different color than mine and after looking I realized that I had either not paid for mine either or I had paid for it and lost it.
I went to pay for his and check on mine and when the lady at the desk checked the computer and saw that I had not paid mine her eyes got huge. She said she was surprised that I had not gotten a ticket. Mine was 5 months late. Looking at the papers, it looks like they only charged $5 each for the late fee.
I have never done anything like this before. I am used to paying things early if anything. I don't know how that could have escaped me.

Oh no!
It's a good thing you didn't get caught! I wonder what the fine would have been then!

Good that you got it taken care of and the penalty wasn't more.
Just one of those things that happens when we get too busy, don't feel bad.

ILBT, join the club. Everyone does things like that. In May, the second half of our taxes were due and I have always paid my bills on time. Hmmm, once I messed up on our mortgage, but I had a good excuse...I was in the hospital giving birth to our son. Got a small fine.
Well, for some reason I screwed up and I never paid the taxes. They give you until May 30th to pay for them without any fines. This was now the end of June. I sent the check out immediately, and I suppose because we have always paid on time....we didn't have any fines to pay. Hang in there...and remember it gets worse the older you get!!!!

Well, I do know what happens if you live in Arizona.
We had purchased a two year license tag for my car and then moved into our house in Prescott.
No notice was sent out or if it was the time limit for forwarding was past, so, I'm busy with a new school year but think hubby probably took care of it because I didn't get a notice about it. We were in Phoenix to meet some friends and got pulled over. My husband never speeds so it was a complete mystery to us. It was our car license. It was just a little over a month over due.
It cost almost $100 in late fees even though I went home and got online right away. Since I didn't want to return to Phoenix another day and fight the ticket (take a day off work and drive 90+ miles) I paid it.
I still think the P.O. should forward anything that looks like a bill to to people. THey could certainly see it was from the state.

Mouse, I am still getting tons of mail for two of my children who have been out of the house for years. Was getting it for all 4, but eventually after several years mail for the two oldest stopped. All of them did the change of address forms too. I get more mail for them then for us. I get my youngest daughter's cell phone bills, credit card bills, bank statements, insurance bills. She has lived upstate for just about 5 yrs. She keeps telling these companies to send the mail to her. I have to then mail the bills and statements up to her. I can't even wait to receive everything and mail it all at once in a big envelope because some need to be taken care of right way. Again she contacted the companies and lately I have just been writing Return to Sender with a note saying that my daughter doesn't live here anymore. Its a real pain in the butt. We will always gripe about the PO and yet the cost for mailing still is going up but the service goes down.

Mouse, I had something like that happen to me a few years ago. It was not my fault (so I thought) because I didn't receive the renewal notice in the mail. I got stopped by a cop who gave me a ticket and then I called the State dept who told me 'it's not their fault if I didn't get the renewal, I should have notified someone to send out another'.
ok so since that time I always make sure I have the renewal a month before it's due and if I don't I call and demand another be sent out. I do think it was the Post Office who was at fault. :fu:

Oh. I forgot to mention that I did go to the motor vehicle place and put in a change of address because I thought I would have to get a new license because of the change of address, but didn't have to.
That, again, is another reason we should've gotten our renewal form. IMO ----okay....I didn't think about my car "address". I thought only about being it's owner they'd put it into the computer and it would take care of that. Wrong.
Oh well.

It's a wonder I haven't had a ticket. On Tuesday, I got a phone message from AllState saying my insurance was expiring and to pay my bill immediately if not sooner. I payed it, but it was a week late. Fortunately for me, there were no penalties.
I'm telling you, I need a vacation. The sooner the better.
