Hi folks. I just found that I had a voice mail on my phone from Lion. Lion sounded understandably upset and the message was very brief. AnnaDot is being admitted to the hospital. She's very sick and they're not sure why yet. I tried to call her but wasn't able to make contact. I've left a message on her cell and also with her son at home. I am hoping to hear back soon. Meanwhile, please keep little Anna and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Hoping for the best. It's never easy with a sick baby, who can't tell you what's wrong, and it can turn around on a dime and be fine. Hugs and prayers, Lion.

Last night, AnnaDot got sick, ran a temp of 103. Swan and Soldier and DJ (he was sleeping over) stayed up all night with her, spoke to the covering doctor on the phone and they were told it might be a reaction to her shots (she had them Tuesday).
Today, they went in for a sick visit. Temp was down to 99.3, but the doctor looked at her and immediately sent her to the ER for X-Rays and blood work. She got sent home. Half an hour later, they were told to bring her back to be admitted. Her white count is through the roof.
Right now, temp is back up to 103. They had a lot of trouble getting blood and her arms are all bruised up. She's also got 2 IVs - one antibiotics and the other nutrients - and they put that arm in a cast-like bandage to keep her from moving it. She's hooked up to a catheter and they're scheduling her for a spinal tap. Could be the flu, could be pneumonia, could be meningitis, could be RSV.
I just got off the phone with Swan and she said AnnaDot was screaming in pain non-stop for two hours but now she's passed out. Swan had quit smoking the minute she realized she was pregnant - she's having a cigarette right now. I'm not going to say anything about it. She's one step from losing it, Soldier is frustrated because they're not getting any answers.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers - we (the family) really need every little bit of it right now. Remember, she's only 2 months old.

Poor little girl. She can't possibly understand what is happening to her. Swan and Soldier must be beside themselves.
You reacted quickly to the problem. Hopefully they'll be able to nip it in the bud.

Sending out my prayers for Anna Dot. Have they checked for a urinary tract infection? Emily had one when she was 3 months old and she had the same symptoms. I hope they figure out the problem soon so that she can be treated and start feeling better. Hugs to you all, it is never easy at all to watch our children (or grandchildren) endure so much discomfort.

We just got back from the hospital. She did good all day, but the fever started up again shortly before we left. Seems it goes up nights. Poor thing is cranky and beating us with her "cast", but we did get a few half-smiles from her.
Swan and Soldier get to stay in her room with her. Hospital provides formula, but no nipples so they had to use their own bottles with no way to wash them out. Looks a lot better than she did yesterday, but we still don't know what's causing this - doctors are saying we have to wait until tomorrow night for all the test results to come in.
To be honest, getting to hold her again and listening to her babble did J and I a world of good. At least we can rest a bit easier, we can see she's trying to be her old self again.

Get better, little AnnaDot. I hope it's just the beginning of her getting well, and she'll feel even better tomorrow.
Fevers in kids are notorious in spiking at night, Lion. It's built in to scare the bejeezus out of parents, and keep them running to the phone or emergency room.

I'm late in seeing this but count on more prayers for Annadot's health to improve. Hopefully it isn't too serious. I remember my Sarah used to do the same thing (fevers spiking at night, crying with pain etc) and it turned out to be allergies. Build up of fluids in her eustation (sp?) tubes was the site of the infection. Got tubes, a couple of rounds of antibiotics and we were good to go. Until she turned 4. Then we had to start her on allergy shots. She still fights the allergies (mostly house dust) but she's learned to deal with it.
Hope to hear good news from you soon.

AnnaDot is more or less home today. Actually, she's going to be an outpatient the rest of the week, with more tests and more appts scheduled from tomorrow til Friday. No one's still sure what happened - even the doctors aren't agreeing. So far it's a kidney impairment, it's a UTI (nice call, Krams!), it's an upper respiratory infection, it's a mild case of the flu - they should just be honest and say we have no F@#ing idea what's wrong with this baby. My daughter's been told this is relatively common by one nurse, another yelled at her that this is very rare and all her fault. But the fever went down and she's heading home, no small thanks to everyone who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. ;) I just think we've all reached the point where we don't care what it was, as long as it's over.
BTW, all the staff that came in and out of her room while we there commented on how well AnnaDot was taking it and how good-natured she was (if you can call beating people with the IV board and the "baby lojack" good-natured).
And at least we know she'll have mild convulsions at 102 degrees - always good to know for future reference.

Glad to hear AnnaDot is home. WTF did the nurse yell for? You have to explain that story. UGH!!! how could you yell at a mother who is beside herself with worry. Hope she gets better everyday.

I'm with Ang, I would be talking to that nurse's superior and to the hospital itself. That's uncalled for and unprofessional.
I'm so glad AnnaDot is outa there.

I'm so glad she is back home. It's weird that they can't figure out what is going on but at least she's back in a familiar enviroment. But good for all of you too because you know they wouldn't let her go if they thought she was still in any danger.
Give that nurse a swift kick in the behind from me too. What an ignorant, unprofessional and downright nasty thing to do to Swan. :grind:

Round 2:
AnnaDot has RSV. She is home and on a nebullizer. Course, she thinks it's her best friend - she babbles to it and pokes her fingers through the mist. She can't lay down (too much mucus/sputum), so someone has to sit up with her to make sure her head doesn't flop down. Soldier isn't able to help out all that much because he has to work (and sleep to get ready for work). And Swan is in dire need of a root canal and awaiting insurance approval for the procedure. DJ spent Christmas break helping out at their house - this may be the best birth control ever for a 16 year old boy!
But she's still sick, so please (if you could) keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry to hear AnnaDot is still sick. I hate it when they come down with something antiobiotics can't help, but the nebulizer should ease her breathing. A sick baby disrupts everyone's schedule, for sure. I hope Swan gets to the dentist soon.

I sorry to hear that AnnaDot is still having problems. After all this time with no news, I had assumed she was doing lots better. Sounds like she is taking it all in stride but it sounds exhausting for the rest of you.
I had to look up RSV as my medical knowledge is pathetic and it sounds like she must have a pretty bad case of it. At least the thing I read said it is usually no big deal. I will certainly be keeping her and all of you in my thoughts.
I hope Swan gets her insurance approval ASAP. :luck:
