Looks like we may be in for another ride. I am not even wanting to think about it but everyone at work was abuzzing about Galveston and Houston starting a voluntary evacuation Monday. How true that is, I'm not sure but it spread like wildfire through town. It depends on which weatherman you listen to but they have Dean projected to come in anywhere between Brownsville and Galveston. Thats a wide stretch but still too close for my comfort. With Rita, we had decided if Galveston was mentioned, we were outa here. Well, its already been mentioned and the hurricane is still so far away.
I am proceeding with evac plans: loading vehicles with important papers, water, non perishable foods, and we have several gas cans filled and ready to go.

Mama has already "put her reservation in" at the place where she stayed during Rita. Thank God for that family! If I can just get her up there and settled, then I can come back to the house and ride it out. ...I think...I just cant' wrap my mind around leaving again. Oh well...that's what you put up with when you live where we live. This will really be only the third time we ever evacuated so I guess we've been lucky.

It's just such a pain in the rear.

I don't wish Dean on anyone but anywhere but here is better for me!

Phooey!!!

Last night, Charlie told me that he wanted to live in the place where there was no chance of ever being caught in violent weather of any type.

Guess we'll cross Texas off his list! ;)

(Anyone have a suggestion for Charlie?)

Hang in there, frawnie!

Gabby, the way the weather has been in the past few years the only place for Charlie would be whereever his family is...wrapped in love and prayers. Doesn't seem like anywhere is safe. Now we are getting tornadoes in Brooklyn...how crazy is that? Hurricane season has every newspaper on Long Island filled with what to do if another big one hits here. How to prepare the home and fill it with supplies. There are no evacuation plans except for the coastal towns to move the people further into the center of the island. There is no way off of here except for maybe some people that are very close to the bridges and even then the traffic would be snarled for days. Mother Nature has full control of the weather and there is nothing more any of us can do.
My thoughts turned to you and Pocket when I saw where Dean was heading.

Yep, we're watching too. Already got the gas. If it looks like it's making a turn, I'll be packing this weekend. We know the drill. It's hard to predict where to go, though. The best place is determined by the way Dean comes inland. My best hope is that it does hit the Yucatan and slows down, (but pity poor Cozumel) then goes into a less populated area. Wishing won't make it disappear.

Congrats V6 on your 4000th post.

The TransPecos region (ie Big Bend etal) is looking pretty good for us! :) But you have to really want to get away from it all because that is exactly what you do out there!

We have made reservations in Paris TX. Hubbie said San Augustine wasn't far enough inland for his taste after the winds we saw from Rita. I put my brother in charge of getting mama situated. It's his turn for this one.

I don't think it's going to reach the point of us evacuating but if it does, we're as ready as you can be, I guess.

And congratulations on your 4oooth!!,Virgo! Keep 'em coming!

I hope everyone is able to ride this one safely out of the way. I feel sorry for the people of Jamaica, right in it's path and it will be really really bad.

I've been watching it too. Tonight the latest projected storm track has been moved substantially to the south and west. I realize that things could change if it made a sudden turn but so far it is looking a lot better for the Houston area. :luck:

The path shows it crossing the Yucatan, which will slow it considerably. That's good news for wherever it hits.

Well, we can relax, it looks like! I'll cancel our reservations but I'm not unpacking the stuff yet. Might just leave it in the boxes and put 'em in the shed.

Yeah, I don't wish a hurricane on anyone but I am glad its course has moved south.

It did get our attention and I suppose that is a good thing. Makes us remember to not be complacent about these storms.
