This morning, Mr. Gabby kept looking into the backyard and squinting. He was trying to figure out what-in-the-heck was on our playstructure. He thought it was either a large rock or a very, very fat squirrel!

Turns out, it was a very friendly owl. Charlie was the first out to investigate and the owl let him get really close. The owl stayed most of the day and then moved into a pine tree in the field behind our home.

My niece is a bird expert at Zoo Atlanta, and we're waiting to hear from her why the owl was not afraid of us. We thought he might be injured, but it doesn't look like it from the photos.

How cute! He just looks like he was snoozing and sunning.

 Maybe he was delivering the mail!

I can't decide if the owl was brave letting the kids get that close or if the kids were brave to get that close. Pocket's right though - he definitely looks like a very sleepy owl.

Maybe its a baby and got lost or do you have any places near you that have rescued animals. We have a nice local park that takes in exotic animals that people illegally own and then get caught with; or injured ones that for some reason can't be let out into the wild. Maybe this owl was in a park like ours and got out. It would definitely not be afraid of people.
Well, even if its just there to sunbathed, its adorable. Great photos.

Looks like a young Long-eared Owl. Really cute. I would have called a rescue place, that behavior is odd.

So, what's up with the owl? Inquiring minds want to know!

We're pretty sure he's an Eastern Screach Owl. He hung out near our property most of the weekend (when it was sunny), but we didn't see him today.

There are actually a lot of owls in our area -- we just don't see them during the day (but we do hear them on summer nights when the windows are open). We got the number of a wildlife rescue woman, but we didn't call her.
