It is with a sad heart I write this post. My dear father passed away this evening at the age of 93. The past few years were very difficult for him, but he put up a brave fight with hardly a complaint. I will write a tribute to him here when I get the time. My main concern right now is getting my mother through the next few days. Please keep us in your thoughts as we say goodby.

Oh, Irish, I am so very sorry to read this news. I will absolutely be keeping you and your family in my thoughts. Especially you. Your mom is going to turn to you for a lot - and not just in the next few days. I fully believe you have the strength and love in you to handle it but I know it will be hard.
If there is anything I can do or if you just need an ear, you know I am here for you.
I do look forward to reading your tribute. I figure if the guy raised a woman as good-hearted as you, he had to be a good man.

Hi, all!
I'm Sillywilly... Irishlass's daughter. I know how much all of your thoughts and prayers mean to her and the rest of us right now. As she said, in time she will post a tribute to Grandpa... but for now, I thought that you might like to read about this wonderful man as I reminisce about him in my blog entry of today:

Sillywilly, that was a very nice blog on your grandfather. It was like sharing a little of him with us. Thank you for that.
Thoughts and prayers to you all.

Sillywilly, I really enjoyed reading your memories of your grandfather. He sounds like a wonderful man, very much loved, and very loving. Keep those memories fresh and write down more. As long as he's remembered, he's still with you.

Thank you all for the support and prayers. I have been sneaking a peek at this thread the past few evenings before I go to bed. It really helps to feel so much love from everyone here. As for my daughter and her blog post............what can I say? I'm so proud of her and her ability to "put it down in writing". I'm not sure I'll have much left to say in my tribute, she pretty much said it all. The funeral is tomorrow morning at 11:00, if you think of us at that time, I know we'll "feel" your presence.

I enjoyed reading the memories too, Sillywilly. In a lot of ways what you wrote about him reminded me of my own maternal grandfather, gone for over 30 years now. Thanks for sharing them.
Hugs to you and your family as you go through this difficult time.
ETA: Oops, I was writing when Irish was posting. I will definitely send extra thoughts your way tomorrow morning.

Thank you for the memories of your grandfather SillyWilly. Brought tears to my eyes remembering my grandfather who also had his special chair and worked so hard on his dairy farm to raise 11 children. My grandfather had a spittoon near his chair though...haha...nasty. Those thoughts will stay with you forever just like mine has with me. That was a wonderful story.
