View Full Version : Remember Those Kindergarten Threads...

Well I just went back and looked at a few of them.

WHY? Because Caroline graduates from Elementary School Tuesday morning. And I'm sure I'll be all :crying:

She has had a great 5th grade year. Great grades. Really good EOG's so she will be placed in the highly gifted program at middle school.

A great year all in all. There have to be a few other parents who are facing the same things this year or have lived through this time already.

Caroline and I are both a little nervous about Middle School but I think she is both socially and academically prepared.

Man, times flies.

Another one of those moments!!! I was going to bump that thread this week!

Tommy's ceremony is on Thursday. I just spent the last hour putting the final touches on the "official" memory book for his classmates. I cried when I proof-read them.

He is thrilled to be going to middle school and I can't wait to kiss elementary school good-bye! Oh yeah...I still have Charlie! ;) You know me...I love teenagers and can't wait to have some of my own.

Caroline just did her "fashion show" prancing around in her dress and new shoes. She is very excited about the graduation. I just pray I don't fall to pieces. These things tear me up even when my children are not involved.

Having just seen my baby graduate high school I can surely relate. It is such a bittersweet time for sure. The kinder teachers from his elementary school host a reception for their former students each year and it was so nice to be able to go and reminiscence over some of their kinder memories. It was so funny to see those 6 feet tall guys try to squeeze into those oh so little desks they used to sit at with their feet dangling! The girls all grew into young women! How'd that happen!

Enjoy these moments. They do go by quickly! Take lots of pictures to document everything!

Frawnie, a reception by kindergarten teachers sounds wonderful. I wonder what the teachers were thinking about who had reached their potential and who had come out of their shells, etc.

Caroline told me that they got a sneak peak at the slide show that will be presented tomorrow morning. She said it made her cry. I'm taking loads of Klennex.

I love slideshows of little kids growing up and changing right before your eyes! They let you see things you might have missed!

Pocket, the teachers had each senior present give their favorite memory and there were some really funny stories that came out of that...mostly involving naptime and recess! Only a fraction of their original students made it to the reception. The average was 7 out of 28 for each teacher. Not a big group but they all enjoyed it. I think the biggest surprise for the teachers came when the seniors told what their plans were. One young lady (tiny little thing you would think was a freshman) talked of getting her CNA and continuing in Nursing school. "Oh and I want you to meet my 1 1/2 yr old son!" BTW this same girl recieved a scholarship from the school for 4 yrs perfect attendance. PLUS she and the baby's father are happily married. AND she was very active in all the fundraising that went on for Project Graduation Safe Night.

I don't know her very well but she definitely impressed me. If only more kids her age stepped up to the plate and took responsibility I wouldn't be so worried about their future.

How'd it go today, TS? Did you have enough tissues? Do they *make* enough tissues? Did you bust your buttons with pride? :)

I was so proud. I had my tissues but held together pretty well. The slide show made me tear up but when they started that pomp and circumstance music, I was a goner.

I attempted a quick recovery but was pretty emotional the whole day.

Caroline was GORGEOUS. And I'm not a bit prejudice ;). It was so sweet to see her with her friends. Them huggin' and talking about how great school had been.

So often, folks lose sight of the simple joys in life. Good wholesome emotion shaped over years from friendships and memories.

I know the memories of yesterday will last a lifetime for both Caroline and myself. I am a very blessed soul.

Sounds like a happy memory for both of you!

:crying:

I sobbed reading your account. Yesterday was Tommy's party. The kids were on the floor doing the cha-cha slide and one of my friends leaned over and asked, "You know what makes me sad?" She let out a huge laugh and added "You're tearing up even before I told you what makes me sad!!!" LOL

Fortunately, I hate Pomp and Circumstance. If they play that...I'll be okay. :D
Tommy's ceremony is tomorrow.

Are we going to get any pictures of these past "kindergarteners"? (Maybe a then picture and a now picture?

I can sympathize. My baby is now a sophomore in high school. I, though, am hoping these next few years go quickly. (My age is surely showing here. Maybe since it is my second set, too. My first set graduated in '92. These two will graduate in 2011. I'm almost 20 years older!!!)

I'm not sure if I can find a Kindergarten picture on this computer (I'll have to scan one), but here's one from this morning.

We had a beautiful ceremony and I only cried a little bit. We got good news today that Tommy has been placed in the advanced math program (he'll skip 6th grade math).

We're off to another baseball game tonight. I don't finish school until next Tuesday.

Holy cow, Gabs! He's going to be taller than you pretty soon. Somebody must be eating his veggies. :)

Oops, I was typing when TS snuck in and poster her pic! Caroline is a real cutie too. I love her smile.

Hooray for pictures!

I'll post one of Charlie later. He's almost as tall as Tommy.

Thanks, Gabby and TS!

Your kiddoes look great.

Tommy looks like he is already a middle school student.

(And I agree with Slitter on Caroline's smile.) She looks like such a sweetie.

(You look pretty good, too, Gabby.)

Charlie's eye looks a lot worse in real life (it's bluer today). :)

He's getting REALLY big.

Great photos. TS Caroline is so sweet looking and has beautiful hair.
Such a young lady.
Gabby, those boys are going to be hard to "look up to" in a few years. I know that feeling because my son was a late bloomer but in high school grew to be 6'3". It was extremely difficult for me to reprimand him for not cleaning his room. LOL
You and the boys all have such pretty eyes. Too bad one of them is now a lovely purple.

Oh my. He definitely took a good pop there {chuckle}.

I wouldn't chuckle if he wasn't smiling through it. I bet he calls for the next fly ball. :)

Well, I'd say she's got quite a bit of sass to her too. But overall, she's a keeper!
